In the Bible Jesus says the following in Matthew 18, verses 2-3:
And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
They say that a child will always look at things in a very different way. I was sitting at home this weekend looking at some DVD titles and asking myself what made me buy some of the ones that I owned. Funny to think that a 6-year-old girl was the one responsible for me buying the movie, Happy Feet. She spoke of the movie with such joy, and cheer. She had a purity about the movie that made it come to life. I hadn’t seen the movie at that point. I recall her mother asking me two questions. 1. was she bothering me? and 2. why did I spend so much time listening to her? I don’t remember what I answered to the second question, I just know the little girl told me about the entire movie, and made me want to see it.
Children have a purity that most parents, grandparents always treasure to keep for as long as possible. I can’t help to think of the conditions in our world today. And wonder if we havent pushed away the child like manner that made us all live happy.
As I did my search, attempting to find a pic for this blog, I realized how difficult it is to find a picture of kids, simply playing in a playground. Just doing child like things.
As we look at the recent streak of violence in our country, I am brought to the point of asking the question, have we helped to lose the children to non happy ideas.
Do we realize that most kids today know how to type text messages, or know about search engines, more than, playing hop scotch. Or kickball, in the park. Let’s not even think about the school wide game of tag.
A kid who recently tried to take a gun to school, was asked simply why? He answered, he wanted to know if pulling the trigger would feel the same as when he played his video games.
Our children have lost their childhood, looking at things that change them forever. Maybe now would be a great time to not just us as adults, but even our kids today. Heed the words of Jesus Christ, and become as children once again.
So go out and play with a child, yea they may win. But you will have so much fun again. Bring your family back together, by simply enjoying each other while you still have the chance.
Life is only what you make it to be, so live it love it, enjoy it. And laugh like the child inside of you!
